Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng is a South African medical professional and a strong advocate for sexual and reproductive health. In addition to running her own medical practice, Dr Mofokeng is the vice-chairperson of the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Coalition and is involved with regional and international activism. She focuses on the following areas in particular:
- Inclusive sexual health education
- LGBTQIA rights
- Transgender health
- Challenging rape culture
- Body integrity, equality, and dignity
- Safe and legal access to abortion
- Decriminalization of sex workers
- Healthcare training and communication in public health
EARLY LIFE
Dr. Mofokeng was born in Qwa-Qwa in the Free State province of South Africa. After completing her basic education at St. Dominic’s Academy, Dr. Mofokeng received a certificate in beauty and somatology before enrolling at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu Natal. In 2007, Dr. Mofokeng graduated with an MBChB degree in medicine and surgery. She interned with the Gauteng Department of Health for three years before joining Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital as a casualty doctor in the pediatric department.RISE TO SUCCESSES
With a vision of a world where people enjoy sexual and reproductive health, Dr. Mofokeng opened a private reproductive clinic. She started producing video blogs that provide the information required for people to make informed decisions about their current and future reproductive health. Dr. Mofokeng also began to make regular contributions to radio, television, and print media platforms across South Africa and abroad as a key thought leader in her field.
